Hello Chris,
Why don't you invite letters on vegetarianism and non-vegetarianism? You can also publish letters of those who are in favor of milk consumption and those who are against it. I believe that a mixed diet is most suitable for human beings. Thanks Ashok, I have done some research (and continue to do more) on this issue. I don't think there is a simple answer, It all depends on one's ancestry and what was available to a group of people in their given environment. And on one's metabolic type or constitution as in Ayurveda. In some cases one man's food can literally be another's poison...
In case you missed it, my experience with food is at:

Once you have finished it I should be happy to send some stuff that will blow your mind about magical (medicinal) qualities of raw milk...
Like the milk itself today, substitutes for it are highly processed. These alternative have no track record and I would not touch them with a 10 foot pole particularly soy... Like anything - moderation is very important in any food group.
Most people OD (over dose) on depleted foods just trying to get the missing nutrients by consuming more till their body's needs are met (sometime this never happens regardless of the quantity because some foods are so depleted or highly processed).
It is probably for this reason, in the west, where excessive protein (due to ease of availability) is eaten, one mistakenly thinks that the taller people are healthy. Nothing could be farther from the truth. According to Nourishing Traditions (by Sally Fallon with Mary G Enig, PhD) "fewer persons alive at 70 today survive until 90 than forty years ago." And those who do survive past 70 have more degenerating diseases. "Credit for today's relatively long life spans belongs to improvement in sanitation and the reduction in infant mortality"
We need the bioavailable building blocks before we can even think of dealing with diseases which are nearly always related to some nutrient deficiency. No building blocks no cure it's simple as that
Highly nutrient foods are very satisfying and we generally need very little to take the hunger away and keep us healthy.
Most people have all kinds of opinions and are ready to criticize, without doing their homework - hence I don't get entangled with all the fruitless and almost religious discussions. There simply are no short cuts to doing solid investigation and research on your own and discussing with those who burned some mid night oil of their own...
We all start life as 100 per cent non-vegetarians because milk is a non-vegetarian food. All infants are actually non-vegetarians!
This statement has nothing to do with veg or non veg. Infants have different needs and have nothing to do with those of adults our nutritional needs change throughout our life. If one was to follow this line of thinking then all herbivore mammals must be really non vegetarians. Not so!
Also the milk from the mother is not highly processed and is a real food (unfortunately loaded with all the environment crap now) with all its components and simply cannot be compared to the junk one gets at the market...

The three essentials (air, water and food) are free in nature. We are the only animal who has made good wholesome foods into commercial junk foods and have the cheek to think we can out do nature. This has more do with creating artificial environments to make wealth and not our health...
